Episode 5: Sustainability in golf course management

Posted by John Kaminski on 10 Dec 2011 / 1 Comment

In Episode 5 we discussed the issues surround the term “sustainability” in golf course management operations. There was a lot of good discussion about what exactly that means and ways to become more sustainable. It is likely that this will become an in-depth topic for a future #turfchat.

Many thanks to those who participated in this weeks #turfchat.

Great topic and very interesting to hear what other industry professionals have to say. To further Scott’s point on who’s driving the bus to sustainability, I think that it is sustainability professionals like Scott who is doing it because he believes in it but is unfortunately being forced to push it when its golf course owners who need to take control. Superintendents are in, its the owners or money people who seem afraid to change the direction of the bus that is gradually driving towards the cliff.
I did a speaking tour in 2010 for NGCOA is BC Canada about the business value of environmental stewardship and the owners that were there just looked at me with blank stares. Virtually the same talk with supers was very well received.
Great topic, next time I would love to be involved. Please check out my website at http://www.fromthegreenside.com

Great job and thanks.
